St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital will soon be able to provide a specialised dietetic and diabetes educator service to patients living with diabetes, thanks to a $5000 Undergraduate/Postgraduate Scholarship awarded to Dietitian, Cassandra Forsyth.

Cassandra has worked as a dietitian in the Allied Health team at St Andrew's Ipswich Private Hospital since 2021, providing nutrition services including nutrition support, diet education, enteral/parenteral nutrition and food services.

“I have always been passionate about helping people and nutrition. I have a special interest in diabetes management and helping people to improve their health and nutrition knowledge. My long-term goal is to become an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian in the area of diabetes.”

Cassandra applied to Ramsay’s Scholarship Program to support her study to become a Credentialled Diabetes Educator.

“Nutrition plays a significant role in the management of people with diabetes. By providing a dietetic and diabetes educator service we will be able to provide a higher level of service and patient care to both inpatients and outpatients in the Ipswich area,” said Cassandra.

“We have recently opened a Ramsay Health Plus and by being a dietitian and diabetes educator we will be able to provide a specialised service within our area, which currently has long wait periods.”

During her career with Ramsay, Cassandra has taken advantage of a number of professional development opportunities.

“I have been able to complete professional development in relation to providing nutrition support for renal patients, gastrointestinal nutrition and nutrition in critical care. I have also completed the Ramsay Preceptorship Program.”

“I have had the ability to gain skills and experience in a wide variety of areas by working at Ramsay. I have a wide and varied caseload and the ability to help a range of people with their nutrition at different stages of their life and health, whilst also being able to complete quality improvement activities.”

“I enjoy working as part of the multidisciplinary team at Ramsay with a team-based approach which allows our team to provide a high level of patient care.”

Cassandra was awarded an Undergraduate/Postgraduate Scholarship worth $5000 in the second round of Ramsay’s 2023 National Scholarship Program.
