When he is not supporting his team and the patients at Masada Private Hospital, Allied Health Assistant, Harry Mezger is a fierce advocate for people living with a disability and a mentor to other intellectually disabled athletes.

Harry is an impressive neurodiverse athlete, who recently represented Australia in the 2023 Virtus Global Games in France and the Special Olympics World Games in Germany. He was also recently awarded the Young Achiever Award from the Special Olympics.

“I felt very honoured and privileged to be recognised for the work that I have done supporting and being an advocate for those with an intellectual disability like myself.  It was a bit of a shock on the night and I really had not expected it all so it was even more of a thrill,” said Harry.

Harry’s healthcare career began in a voluntary capacity before he discovered the role of Allied Health Assistant was a perfect fit for his skills and personality.

“I completed a diploma in Sports Leadership and Sports Development, and it was suggested that I should consider becoming an Allied Health Assistant. I then studied a Certificate 4 as an Allied Health Assistant.

“After a few different work placements and roles as a volunteer, a close friend recommended Ramsay’s Masada Private Hospital as a nice place to work with a great culture.  I also really wanted to work in a place where I could help people.”

“I am responsible for working with in-patients to assist them with their rehabilitation exercises that have been prescribed by their physiotherapists. I also support the team by maintaining and ordering stock.”

“I enjoy working with patients and helping them improve whilst they are at Masada.  I also like to see them when they come back as an outpatient, and I can see how they have improved.”

In the new year, Harry plans to take a step back from his sporting commitments to focus on his professional career.

“With my role and commitments at Ramsay I now am focusing on my track cycling which works well with my schedule. I really enjoy working at Ramsay and am looking forward to what comes next.”
