David joined Hollywood Private Hospital as an orthopaedic Registered Nurse 10 years ago. He then progressed to Clinical Nurse, and then Clinical Nurse Manager of orthopaedics, before becoming DDCS.

“After I enrolled in the Nurse Leaders of Tomorrow Program (NLOT) I had the opportunity to act as the Deputy Director of Clinical Services. This experience confirmed my understanding of the role, and the broader responsibilities this position afforded really appealed to me.”

“NLOT was an amazing experience. I have built great relationships across the organisation and benefitted from so much learning and shared knowledge from my colleagues on the program,” said David.

“The support I received whilst acting up from my colleagues and hospital/Ramsay executives provided me with encouragement to apply for the position permanently when it became available.”

As DDCS, David is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Hollywood Private as well as working with the executive team, VMOs and heads of departments to develop strategies to ensure the long-term success of the hospital.

“I am responsible for eight surgical wards, as well as the emergency department, after hours managers, discharge planners, outpatients, patient flow and the pre admission clinic. I also manage specialist nurses responsible for prostate cancer, breast cancer, stoma therapy and clinical pathways.”

David says that the ‘People caring for people’ ethos is what drew him to Ramsay.

“I was familiar with the reputation of Ramsay as an employer and the values of the organisation really appealed to me. ‘People caring for people’ perfectly matched my own values.”

“The experience and support that I have received from Ramsay in my career has prepared me well for the role I am in. In the future, who knows? I would like to continue to develop myself within the Ramsay network and be prepared for whatever opportunities come my way where I can make a difference to our people and patients.”

David recently graduated from the 2022/2023 cohort of the Nurse Leaders of Tomorrow program. For more information, click here.
