Dr Nihal completed all his orthopaedic training in the UK and an advanced clinical fellowship in Foot & Ankle surgery (1999-2000) in New York, USA.

Dr Nihal initially (1993) did registrar training in London, followed by senior registrar (Specialist Registrar) training in Leeds (UK) from 1996-2000. Dr Nihal was awarded the UK Fellowship in Orthopaedics in 1998 FRCSEd(Ortho).

Dr Nihal started in a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon post in October 2000 at a very large NHS Teaching Hospitals in East Yorkshire, as well as in two private hospitals for approximately 7 years before moving to Australia in June 2007. Dr Nihal obtained the Australian Specialist qualification FRACS (Ortho) in August 2009.

Dr Nihal is extensively involved in teaching and training of Griffith Medical students and junior doctors. He has recently been given the academic title of Associate Professor at the Griffith School of Medicine, Gold Coast Campus.
